“Take your place at the Table”…

This got right to me core as I read it because as someone who can be passive and trying to stay humble in this crazy business I’m wondering how much of that serves me or how many times am I actually just getting served up as the main course. This falls in the “got to have a tough skin in this business ” category of truths about Hollywood.

Another one is “Closed Mouths don’t get fed” ..this is. Why it’s crucial to renegage with specific goals for your career and know what is worth fighting for along the way. So you know exactly when to Speak up and say “Hey mutha sucka foool I want in on that action and I can bring all this XYZ to the table” Boooom! They might need what you got in your goodie bag so it works out for everyone.

Ever watch people in class and say Hey I’m good as some of the best people in this room , how come I’m not being noticed as one of them yet? Maybe you need to work a few Extra hours on your scene, do more excercises with your partner in rehearsal and stress to them that you want more rehearsal time. That way you Take your Seat at the Table!

Right now I’m writing a feature film “Heart Broke” i can be the lead in and raising $100,000 or close to it. I have held off doing it low budget style because I have done low budget producing and I know how hard it can be but …..as a example we all recognize right now Lena Dunham from “Girls” did the same thing with her 2 feature films. One of them she financed with baby sitter money and the 2nd was caster with New York actor friends(no name people) and $65,000 that later turned into $450,000 in revenue. She TOOK HER SEAT at the table with her sense of style, dialogue, point of view, awkward vulnerability and now is Judd Apatows protege and sold her book for $2million and has a show on hbo.

If she didn’t do it she probably would of been Chewed Up by New York wanna-be’s, rich punks who belittle her, and alot of other people giving her Verbal Roadblocks.

I currently just wrapped and joining the producers on a feature film “North Blvd” by director/star Amy Esacove who took her seat at the actor/director/producer table a movie she wanted to tell for 10 years and now she is telling it.
