This project was brought to us by a Horror Producer as a Proof Of Concept for a feature film. I was honored when i was first approached to Direct this film because the stakes were really high and it involved the producers real life War PTSD & the horrors witnessed in human and child trafficking. I had to start with those components as the engine for the film and with only minutes to set up this trauma at the beginning of the film. I found a lot of inspiration from Lynne Ramsays brutal film “You Were Never Really Here” with similar subiect matter and Neo-Noir because in the film he plays a detective not a soldier and playing with shadows is a great way to show your characters Trauma without having to vocalize it thru generic dialogue. I went with cinema verite for most of the camera work with our DP @justins_lens to give it a more real world feeling so we understand the traumatized detective on a very human level and if all that works then you can have disbelief in meeting the Bruja that avenges against human traffickers. This character-driven supernatural series about a modern indigenous American Shaman and his friends healing people’s traumas while fighting RIPPED FROM THE HEADLINES CULTS gives resemblance to HBO’s/Stephen King’s “OUTSIDER” and “TRUE DETECTIVE”, with an elevated visual style, contemporary themes and cheeky dark humor .
